A Page from Ramanujan's Lost Notebook

Lecture by Frank Garvan (University of Florida)

ABSTRACT: We examine four identities on a page from Ramanujan's Lost Notebook. The first identity is related to results of Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer (1954) for Dyson's (1944) rank of a partition mod 5. The second identity gives a clue to the mysterious crank which was conjectured by Dyson to explain Ramanujan's partition congruence mod 11. The other two identities involve two of Ramanujan's mock theta functions of order 5. We find that all four identities are related.
