GETTING TO GAINESVILLE
North Central Florida is served by four airports listed below in
order of increasing distance from campus. The hyperlinks below will
take you to the airport's main website, where you can find the
airlines that have service there as well as information regarding
rental cars, local taxi services, and other basic transportation
information.
-
Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV)
is 20-30 minutes away
from campus. Car rentals, taxis, and the local bus service are
all available to take you to your hotel. The Paramount Plaza Hotel and the
Hilton University Hotel
offer shuttles to the Gainesville Airport.
Please see the GNV website for information on local
taxis. If arriving late at night you may want to arrange beforehand
a taxi to be there waiting for you.
-
Jacksonville International Airport (JAX)
is about 85 miles
away and you should usually allow two hours if you are driving a
car. Also please note that several towns between Jacksonville and
Gainesville have been certified as speed traps by AAA. These
include Lawtey, Starke, Waldo, and nearly every other small town
along US Hwy 301. Observe and follow posted speed limits carefully!
-
Orlando International Airport (MCO)
is approximately 125 miles
away. If renting a car, it is a two hour drive with good traffic
and can take considerably longer otherwise. Also, the main route
between Orlando and Gainesville includes a turnpike with tolls that
are approximately $25 round trip.
-
Tampa International Airport (TPA)
is 135 miles from Gainesville,
and just under 2.5 hours if there is no traffic leaving Tampa. There
are no back country roads or tolls to navigate; take I-75 N to
Gainesville. However due to its distance there are no shuttle
services, leaving few options besides renting a car.
