Carl PomeranceAffiliation: Dartmouth College Title Of Talk: The Erd\H{o}s-Straus conjecture Abstract: In 1948 Erd\H{o}s and Straus conjectured that for every integer $n>1$, the fraction $4/n$ is equal to $1/a + 1/b + 1/c$ for some positive integers $a, b, c$. Still unsolved after nearly 80 years, this curious conjecture has been studied by Sierpinksi, Schinzel, Mordell, Vaughan, Elsholtz & Tao, and many others. This talk will review what is known and discuss some new results. (Joint work with Andreas Weingartner.)
