Title Of Talk: Somo problems on partitions that arise from representation theory
Abstract: It is well-known that the dimensions of the representations of the symmetric group of degree n can be obtained from the Young diagrams associated to the partitions of n by the so called hook formula. Several problems on arbitrary finite groups have been reduced to questions on the symmetric group, for which the hook formula plays an essential role. In this talk, we discuss some of these problems, with the hope that they can be solved with methods from combinatorics and number theory.
