TRAVEL

Gainesville is served by Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV). There are regular flights to and from Atlanta on Delta and to and from Charlotte, NC on USAir. GNV is about 5 miles from the Math Dept and about 7.5 miles from the Rush Lake Motel.

For more flights and perhaps cheaper fares, you can also check the two other regional airports. Depending on where you are coming from and/or the size of your party, it may be less expensive to fly into one of these airports and rent a car.

  • Jacksonville (JAX) is about a 90 minute drive. If you drive from here take care as the speed limit changes frequently on the roads, and several towns along the way make a substantial portion of their budget from traffic tickets.
  • Orlando (MCO) is about a two hour drive. As consequence of Disney World, etc., there are many flights into MCO and one occasionally can get very good deals.
  • JAX and MCO are both served by Runways Transportation Company. You need to make reservations on-line or call them at 1-800-5RUNWAYS. This is a regular service with schedules, not an on-call airport limousine. In Gainesville they will let you off at one of their regular stops; They do not take you directly to your hotel. Their prices are always changing and depend on when you are traveling. As of this writing the fare to Gainesville from JAX was $65 roundtrip and $75 roundtrip Gainesville to MCO (7-day advanced purchase fare).
