The city of Gainesville is arranged in a grid. The numbered streets run north-south and the numbered avenues run east-west. The origin of the coordinate system is at University Avenue and Main St., and so University plays the role of "zero" Ave. and Main the role of "zero" St. The quadrants of town are designated NE, NW, SW, and SE. The University of Florida is in the South West portion of the city, south of University Avenue and west of SW 13th Street. The Mathematics Department in Little Hall is 0.2 miles from the intersection of University Avenue and SW 13th Street.

From the intersection of University Ave. and SW 13th St. to the hotels:

  • The FORMER Holiday Inn-University is located at this intersection.
  • For the Rush Lake Motel, from the intersection of W. 13th and University travel about 1.0 miles south on 13th and take a right at the first light after the underpass which is 16th Ave SW. Your motel will be on the right quite soon after you turn. You enter by the second sign.
  • The Paramount Hotel is at 2900 SW 13-th St (hwy 441). It is a 30 minute walk from campus.

From the airport to the intersection of University Ave. and SW 13th St. The Gainesville Airport is about 6 miles from this intersection. From the airport, turn right when you exit the airport onto NE 39th Ave. As you are driving west on NE 39th Ave. the numbers of the cross streets will go down till you get to Main St. and then increase to NW 13th St. which is about 2 miles from the airport. Take a left onto NW 13th St. and about 3 miles south to University Ave.

From the intersection of University Ave. and SW 13th St. to the conference: Walk two blocks south on 13th St. to SW 2nd Ave. Take a right into the University of Florida. After you pass the gatehouse you will be in a large parking area. To your left about 60 yards diagonally across a lot is a 4 story building with outside balcony walkways. This is Little Hall. Most of the lectures will be held in Little 339 on the third floor.
