THE RAMANUJAN JOURNAL

An International Journal Devoted to the Areas of Mathematics
Influenced by Ramanujan

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Authors are encouraged to submit high-quality, original work that has neither appeared in, nor is under consideration by, other journals. The paper should be in an area of mathematics influenced by Srinivasa Ramanujan. Topics of interest include:

  • Circle method and asymptotic formulae
  • Connections between Lie algebras and q-series
  • Continued fractions
  • Diophantine analysis including irrationality and transcendence
  • Elliptic and theta functions
  • Fourier analysis with applications to number theory
  • Hypergeometric functions and basic hypergeometric functions (q-series)
  • Mock theta functions
  • Modular forms and automorphic functions
  • Number theory
  • Partitions, compositions and combinatory analysis
  • Special functions and definite integrals

Online Manuscript Submission (http://rama.edmgr.com/)

Springer now offers authors, editors and reviewers of The Ramanujan Journal the use of our fully web-enabled online manuscript submission and review system. To keep the review time as short as possible, we request authors to submit manuscripts online to the journal?s editorial office. Our online manuscript submission and review system offers authors the option to track the progress of the review process of manuscripts in real time.

The online manuscript submission and review system for The Ramanujan Journal offers easy and straightforward log-in and submission procedures. This system supports a wide range of submission file formats: for manuscripts - Word, WordPerfect, RTF, TXT and LaTex; for figures - TIFF, GIF, JPEG, EPS, PPT, and Postscript. PDF is not an acceptable file format.

NOTE: In case you encounter any difficulties while submitting your manuscript online, please contact Melissa Andersen (melissa.andersen@springer.com )

Authors are requested to download the Consent to Publish and Transfer of Copyright form from the journal's online submission system Please send a completed and duly signed form either by mail or fax to the Editorial Office of The Ramanujan Journal as instructed on the form. Authors should still follow the regular instructions for authors when preparing their manuscripts (see below).

The refereeing is done by anonymous reviewers.

MANUSCRIPT STYLE
  1. Typeset, double or 1½ space; use one side of sheet only (laser printed, typewritten and good quality duplication acceptable).
  2. Use an informative title for the paper and include an abstract of 100 to 250 words at the head of the manuscript. The abstract should be a carefully worded description of the problem addressed, the key ideas introduced, and the results. Abstracts will be printed with the article. Please also give the primary AMS 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification number . Secondary classification is optional.
  3. Provide a separate double-space sheet listing all footnotes, beginning with ``affiliation of author'' and continuing with numbered footnotes.
  4. Acknowledgment of financial support may be given if appropriate.
  5. References should appear in a separate bibliography at the end of the paper with items referred to by numerals and put in alphabetical order. References in the text should be denoted by numbers in square brackets, e.g., [12]. The forms of a typical reference to journal article, a book and an article in a conference volume are given below.
    • G. E. Andrews, ``The fifth and seventh order mock theta functions,'' Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 293 (1986), 113-134.
    • J. M. Borwein and P. B. Borwein, Pi and the AGM, Wiley, New York, 1987.
    • D. V. Chudnovsky and G. V. Chudnovsky, ``Approximations and complex multiplication according to Ramanujan,'' in Ramanujan Revisited (G. E. Andrews et al., eds.), Academic Press, Boston, 1988, pp. 375-472.
NOTE: The Springer style for references has changed. See springer-ref-style.html.
  6. Type or mark mathematical copy exactly as they should appear in print. Journal style for letter symbols is as follows: variables, italic type (indicated by underline); constants, roman text type; matrices and vectors, boldface type (indicated by wavy underline). Use appropriate typeface. It will be assumed that letters in displayed equations are to be set in italic type unless you mark them otherwise. All letter symbols in text discussion must be marked if they should be italic or boldface. Indicate best breaks for equations in case they will not fit on one line. Numbers for displayed equations should appear in parentheses flush with the right margin.
ILLUSTRATION STYLE
  1. Originals for illustrations should be sharp, noise-free, and of good contrast. We regret that we cannot provide drafting or art service.
  2. Each figure should be mentioned in the text and numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals. Define any acronyms used in the figure. Specify the desired location of each figure in the text. Each figure must have a caption. Proper style for captions, e.g., ``Fig. 3. Ferrers graph of a partition with indicated Durfee square.''
  3. Number each table consecutively using Arabic numerals. Please label any material that can be typeset as a table, reserving the term ``figure'' for material that has been drawn. Specify the desired location of each table in the text, but place the table itself on a separate page following the text. Type a brief title above each table.
  4. All lettering should be large enough to permit legible reduction.
  5. Suggested figure formats: TIFF, GIF, EPS, PPT, and Postscript Files. Files should be at least 300dpi.

PROOFING

Please be sure to include your e-mail address on your paper. If your paper os accepted, we will provide proofs electronically. Your cooperation is appreciated. The proofread copy should be returned to the Publisher within 72 hours.

COPYRIGHT

It is the policy of Springer to own the copyright of all contributions it publishes. To comply with the U.S. Copyright Law, authors are required to sign a copyright transfer form before publication. This form returns to authors and their employers full rights to reuse their material for their own purposes. Authors must submit a signed of this form with their manuscript.

OFFPRINTS

Each group of authors will be entitled to 50 free offprints of their paper. Additional offprints may be ordered through the offprint form provided with the proofs.

SPRINGER OPEN CHOICE

In addition to the normal publication process (whereby an article is submitted to the journal and access to that article is granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Springer npow provides an alternative publishing option: Springer Open Choice. A Springer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of a regular `subscription-based' article, but in addition is made available publicly through Springer's online platform Springer Link. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please visit www.springeronline.com/openchoice to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in full before publication or articles will publish as regular subscription-model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for published articles.
