Dear colleague,

I am delighted to inform you that Professor George Andrews of The Pennsylvania State University, who is a Distinguished Visiting Professor in our Department each Spring, has been elected President of the American Mathematical Society. He will serve as President Elect of the AMS during the calendar year 2008 and as President in 2009 and 2010. His election to this high office will have a significant positive impact on the mathematical community. We are very pleased to be closely associated with him and will benefit from his wisdom, experience, and support.

A brief description of his career contributions and a statement of his goals for the AMS appeared in the September 2007 issue of the Notices of the AMS.
