On April 3, 2008, there was a dinner at the Hilton in Gainesville in honor of Graduate Research Professor John Thompson who was named as the 2008 Abel Prize Winner along with Jacques Tits of the College de France. The dinner was attended by Mathematics Department faculty and their spouses. It provided an opportunity for colleagues to have relaxed conversation with Professor John Thompson and to express their appreciation.
