Days 6 - 11
DAY 6: Tuesday, December 7th, 1976
Rode to West Wyalong in the morning. NOTE: Marsden
(23 kms from Caragabal) does not exist.
DAY 7: Wednesday, December 8th
Rested in West Wyalong.
DAY 8: Thursday, December 9th
Had a good days ride to Goolgowi (147 km)
with lunch in Rankin Springs.
Broke a rear axle but luckily had a spare.
DAY 9: Friday, December 10th
Rode 110 kms in the morning to Hay. NOTE:
Gunbar 31 kms from Goolgowi does not exist.
Was frightened by a dead wild boar. While I was riding
I saw what looked like a wild boar by the side
of the road hunched in a charging position. Not wanting
to turn back I picked up speed on my bicycle. But was relieved
when getting closer, realising that the boar must have been
killed in that position by a semi-trailer. Later we had
to ride through a locust plague.
DAY 10: Saturday, December 11th
Jim and I rode the 46 kms to Maude (general
store and hotel)
Letter home from Maude
[TXT]
DAY 11: Sunday, December 12th
Early in the morning almost collided with a herd of emus
that decided to suddenly cross the roo. Also the local
roo-shooter with a ute full of dead roos.
The wind was so bad that it took Pat and I
all day to do the 90 kms to Balranald.
