MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT ACADEMIC EVENTS - SPRING 2006

The University of Florida Mathematics Department is having yet another spring term packed with high quality academic events. Many (but not all) events are connected with the Special Year in Probability and Analysis 2005-06.

Monday, February 13
THIRD CENTER FOR APPLIED MATH COLLOQUIUM BY 2005 ABEL PRIZE WINNER PETER LAX (Courant Inst., NYU) at 4:00 pm in Room CSE A101.
January 27 - March 31
VISIT OF EVAN PUGH PROFESSOR GEORGE ANDREWS, Penn State University, for two months. Prof. Andrews who last year was elected to the National Academy of Sciences, will give FOUR LECTURES. Dates of lectures: Feb 14 (NTC Seminar), Feb 23 (NTC Seminar), Mar 8 (IFT Colloquium), and Mar 20 (Math Colloquium).
February 20 - 24
VISIT OF PROFESSOR HERSHEL FARKAS, Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Prof. Farkas is a world authority on theta functions and Riemann surfaces. He will give two talks: Tues Feb 21(Number Theory Seminar), and Wed Feb 22 (Math Colloquium).

SOUTHEASTERN ANALYSIS MEETING - SEAM organized by Scott McCullough, Jim Brooks, Michael Jury, and Steve Summers.

Talks on Mar 4-5 (Sat-Sun) in Little Hall
The SEAM Conference will contain a
  1. Special Session on Quantum Field Theory and Functional Analysis organized by Steve Summers, and a
  2. Special Session on Non-commutative Measure Theory organized by Jim Brooks and Steve Summers.
